Noén began with its founder, Natalie Mankarious — Coptic Egyptian by heritage, and drawn since childhood to the allure and story of Cleopatra: a woman whose power lived not in beauty, but in presence, ritual, and the way she inhabited her own body.
In 2021, Natalie moved from Sydney to New York — arriving at the moment the world was thought to shut down. In that stillness, something became impossible to ignore: how much we had come to hunger for intimacy, connection, and human touch. That longing became a question, and the question became Noén.
We began with a quiet observation. Beauty had grown clinical, the body a problem to solve. What was missing was the older idea — that to care for the body is also to honor it. To anoint it. To touch it with intention. We believe intimacy is not a category or a moment, but a practice of sensation and presence.
Our name joins two roots: the Ancient Greek to think, and the Coptic Egyptian to tremble. Mind and body. Presence and feeling. We make oils, objects, and publications drawn from three thousand years of practice, in small batches in New York — a quiet correction to the way we've learned to treat the body: as something to optimize, rather than something to inhabit.
